Down Syndrome Support Service

7th Apr 2020

Hello,

I am the Advisory Teacher for your school from the Special Educational Needs Inclusion Service (SENIS) for children with Down syndrome. During the current school closure period, a bespoke Programme of Offer is available from our service to pupils, parents and schools with a focus on continued support through remote learning.

The School Closure support will aim to give parents the necessary information and knowledge to enable them to develop their own confidence and skills to meet the needs of the child at home. The normal CYPS training programme for schools has been suspended. However, service staff are working to make helpful resources openly available to parents. All schools and parents with children with Down syndrome can access these resources at:

https://www.eani.org.uk/services/pupil-support-services/sen-inclusion-service
and then click on the link for Down syndrome. School staff can also continue to contact SENIS directly for any advice and support you require.

We aim to continue to offer support via phone and remote learning. Types of support you may need are:

·         Teacher advice and guidance in all areas – via video calls/phone calls and follow up resources via email;

·         Support with individualised work to complete at home;

·         Parent’s packs for cluster training are now available online;

·         The developmental journal for children with Down syndrome are available for children in the early years;

·         Transition programmes- Parental/school advice and support may be required regarding transition; this can be provided via video call or telephone call depending on school/parental preference.

This list is not exhaustive and we aim to help you in any way we can through this difficult time. Please feel free to contact me to discuss support available for the children with Down syndrome in your school.

Kind regards
