Super story sacks

21st Nov 2018

Getting Ready to Learn money has been made available from the Education Authority as non-renewable funding to set up a self-sustaining project for pupils in our Pre-school setting.  This initiative is to enable and empower parents to support their child's learning at home.  One area of the project, 'Big Bedtime Read' has enabled the Speech and Language Therapists to  work creatively and collaboratively alongside the class teacher to provide parents with tools and skills to nurture their child's communication skills.   Parents attended workshops and play and stay events in the classroom.  Sufficient funding enabled us to access books and toys to make super story sacks, and to provide some dedicated time to complete this work.  The Super Story sacks are part of a home lending system which the child takes home on a weekly basis.  These sacks not only provide suitable books for pre-school children but also adapt and support the books to make them accessible to our children with special educational needs.  Advice for parents is provided within each sack.  These sacks can now be rolled out on successive years at no additional cost.
